비증 痺證

Joint impediment disorders

Where they diverge

Traditional concepts do not map one-to-one onto modern diagnoses. Read the divergence note first.

The traditional concept is broader. It is defined not as a disease entity but as a mechanism (obstruction of qi and blood by wind, cold, damp and heat) together with a symptom cluster, so it unites conditions that ICD-11 separates by aetiology and by chapter. Comparing Korean clinical guidelines alone, it spans autoimmune arthritis and degenerative joint disease, and extends to chemotherapy-induced polyneuropathy, a neurological condition. Conversely it encodes none of the variables on which modern arthritis care turns. ICD-11 rheumatoid arthritis requires a composite score across joint count with synovitis, serology, acute-phase reactants and symptom duration; gout requires demonstration of urate crystals in synovial fluid. Neither enters the traditional diagnosis.

Mapping confidence: Strong correspondencebasis: literatureauto-generated · not individually reviewed
  • Research confidence: medium-high. The full assessment, in Korean, is in docs/PATTERN_RESEARCH_KCD_DISEASES.md.
  • The modern correspondences come from literature research, not from an official KCD or KTKP mapping, so the highest mapping confidence is not assigned.
  • Full evidence and citations are in docs/PATTERN_RESEARCH_KCD_DISEASES.md.
  • KCD does not carry the Donguibogam volume, so it is left blank here. It needs checking against the original text.
  • 4 question(s) the research could not settle — see the research document.
